Hey, I haven't used cubase since sx3, I had switched to mac and logic, now I am back on the windows horse. I'd say Steinberg has been listening to their customer base lately. There are actually a lot of workflow improvements depending on how you work. Remember that mess they had with all the weird knobs when the new mixer came out? While I don't use Channel Strip, I have to say, it looks nice now. I wanted to try Distroyer, but was too lazy to add it to my custom plug-in set. I tried some new Reverence presets, but they did not fit the track at the time. GA SE5 looks better from what I saw, but I did not use it yet. Functionally and sonically, it works well. However, as I use it, it's still not as fast and simple as other EQ. The biggest step forward in any recent release for me was Frequency EQ (version 9.5 I think) a genuine challenger for some after-market EQs - if you already have fabfilter then you won't care - if you don't, then IMHO, the case for spending £100+ on an additional EQ has now gone! Again, Variaudio 3 (CB10) makes melodyne (on mono sources) redundant too.Frequency is awesome. I think I will wait to see what's in 10.5 The biggest step forward in any recent release for me was Frequency EQ (version 9.5 I think) a genuine challenger for some after-market EQs - if you already have fabfilter then you won't care - if you don't, then IMHO, the case for spending £100+ on an additional EQ has now gone! To me the mixer snapshots sound like a great idea but are pointless as they do not save mixer automation along with the snapshots. The new distortion plug in (destroyer?) is very good too. The channel strip changes and presentation are excellent. Auto audio align is a great feature - or it will be when they finish it - it's very hit and miss. (why?) the transport bar is more fiddly than before. If you use right click a lot then you'll be annoyed as they've removed the context menus. Variaudios 3 really is very good, would be good enough such that I wouldn't buy melodyne today for vocals. But 10 does seem to be a bit flakey and buggy compared to 9.5. The extra features of 10 are great - if you need them - only you can answer that. One man's version is another's poison! 9.5 is very stable.
